Reverse glass gilding, or ‘Verre églomisé,’ is a technique where gold leaf and painted designs are applied to the back of the glass. The design is created in reverse, then protected with a backing or frame, allowing the finished piece to be viewed from the front.

Gilded glass signs were a popular choice of advertisements in the late 1800’s early 1900s, particularly among businesses in industries like finance, law, pharmaceuticals, tobacco, and alcohol.
